Andersons Contec DG / Nutri DG: Sometimes, not seeing is believing!

Principal Investigator: J.B. Sartain

Purpose: Contec DG Fairways 24-0-10 effects on turfgrass quality, growth and N uptake, and potential N leaching losses. 120-day study on Floratam St. Augustine grass

Effect of N Source on St. Augustine Visual Quality During Entire Evaluation Period

Effect of N Source on N Leached 120 Days After Application

Summary: During the 120 day evaluation period in the glasshouse the two experimental materials (24-0-10 and 25-5-15) produced a higher quality turfgrass, with more total dry matter production and supplied more N to the turfgrass than did the two commercial materials (Polyon and urea); while contributing less potential environmental impact due to reduced leaching of N. In all cases more dry matter production is not desirable due to the requirement of additional mowing, but in this case the additional growth was required to sustain quality which the urea failed to do in that the urea did not sustain acceptable quality turfgrass throughout the 120 day evaluation period. Maintenance of growth and acceptable quality turfgrass while minimizing N leaching losses is a desirable quality in a N fertilizer material. The two experimental materials (24-0-10 and 25-5-15) in this study possess those desirable qualities.
